Art education

Tbilisi State Academy of Art remains the only higher education art institution in Georgia.

Disciplines such as photography, video or even interdisciplinary art are included in the curriculum though conservative, didactic attitudes prevail in some areas according to some. Interestingly this was an initiative of an artist Wato Tsereteli who in 2000 set up an NGO Media Art Farm which also functioned as a contemporary art centre. Part of MAF was integrated into the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 2005.

Outside of Tbilisi there are art high schools in large regional towns such as Kutaisi, Batumi and Rustavi but Nikoladze Art College in Tbilisi continues to be the most prominent.
