Funding

The Ministry of Culture via the regional arts offices (DRAC) is the main provider of grants to individual artists in France (see the Visual Art and Craft funding listings).

Some local authorities and regional councils award grants to individual artists via their cultural departments (services culturels). This funding is for artists living permanently in France.

As a rule, individual grants are awarded to artists based in France on a more or less permanent basis. If you are not yet based in France and are looking for a grant for a specific project, it is easier to apply for funding via a French arts organisation already on the funding network.
