Independent and artist-run spaces
There are more and more independant, alternative and artist-run spaces throughout France, although their life-span is often fairly short, as public funding is becoming hard to find and public-private partnerships not yet the norm as regards the arts in France.
These art spaces are also an excellent way to begin building networks and groups of friends of artists in France.
There are a few major private initiatives, mostly in Paris, listed here as they are not funded by central government.
