OZ

Artquest, in partnership with Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS) and ACAVA, ran three 3-month visual arts residency in Sydney from 2005-2009.

Parrammatta Artists StudiosThe OZ residency was an opportunity for professional London-based visual arts or crafts practitioners at any stage of their careers to make a body of new work in a land far, far away.

The successful applicants all received:

  • a free studio and separate apartment in the same complex worth £1800
  • return airfare worth £800
  • a stipend of £1000 and a materials contribution of £200.

PAS also provided professional development support and orientation in the Sydney contemporary art world.

This residency was a practice-based opportunity to develop a new body of work and international networks.

The selected artists sent regular journal entries of their experiences for the Artquest website, including updates on work produced, galleries visited, or an overview of the art scene in Australia.  The artist's journal and images have been incorporated into our Artroute site, encompassing information on international art scenes around the world.

OZ was presented in partnership with Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS).  PAS provide professional development support and orientation to the artists when in Sydney.

Uddin and Elsey - July-November 2009

Uddin & Elsey were in residence from July-September 2009.  After this period, the artists were invited to stay on and returned in November 2009. Uddin and Elsey have sent us their latest dispatch in the form of a blog which you can read here.

Uddin and Elsey's work is inspired by political events, conditions that lead to social unrest and the spirit of resistance. These are often starting points for research-based and process-led practice. Collaboration, dialogue and participation are integral to their practice. You can find out more about what they do on their website
