Trade Secrets is a new series of informal interviews with practitioners commissioned by Artquest to mark its 10th anniversary.

Each episode sees an artist that Artquest has worked with or supported reflect on their practice and share valuable knowledge on sustaining a career in London. With perspectives from varied disciplines and levels of experience, these films highlight common concerns and approaches to overcoming challenges that artists face today, and speculate as to what the next 10 years might hold.
 

Trade Secrets episode 1: In this film artist Maria Amidu talks about how she makes a living from a 'non-commercial' practice through working in gallery education and shares advice on how artists can best prepare to work abroad.
Trade Secrets episode 2: Helen Carnac practices as an artist, curator and also teaches. In this interview she talks about how her practice is an approach that is situated in and connects her activities.
Trade Secrets episode 3: Gordon Cheung works predominantly as a painter and has had a successful career working with galleries. Here he shares his experiences and reflects on how this came about.
Trade Secrets episode 4: Jaye Ho was the recipient of the Artquest OZ residency where she spent three months living and working in Paramatta artists studios in Western Sydney Australia. In this interview she talks about what artists should prepare for when producing work abroad.
Trade Secrets episode 5: Artquest Programme Co-ordinator Nick Kaplony talks about his practice outside of Artquest, how to get the most out of exhibition opportunities and the importance of networks at Art School.
Trade Secrets episode 6: In this interview artist Ursula Kelly talks on keeping her practice going in the capital.
Trade Secrets episode 7: David Murphy is an artist who works with drawing and Sculpture. Here, he shares some of the valuable experiences he had at art school which have benefited him and touches on how his career has gathered momentum.
Trade Secrets episode 8: In this episode artist Jennet Thomas considers ideas around what professionalism means for artists, how to survive in London and how the models of learning for artists might change in the future.
Trade Secrets episode 9: Collaborative duo Uddin & Elsey talk about their experiences of working together and how taking risks has pushed their practice forward.
Trade Secrets episode 10: Binita Walia is an artist who has worked on architectural glass commissions. In this interview she talks about how the change in financial climate has impacted on her practice and led her to develop it.
