    The Luminary is an artist-run resourcing institution that seeks to provide meaningful support to emerging artists in the St. Louis area. The Residency Program forms an integral element of their programme, engaging the artists with the local community. They offer well-equipped studios, an individually structured professional development program, and a little financial support, minimum $100 a mont. Each resident gains access to a library, basic woodworking shop, digital editing equipment, video production equipment, studio lighting and exhibition space. Applications are accepted all year for 3, 6, and 12 month stays.

    Founded in 1970, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology provides the opportunity to study various forms of art, music and ecology of the central Oregon coast. Visual artists and naturalists are invited to apply for residencies of four months offfering workshops in natural sciences and arts including book arts, botanical illustration, ceramics, ecology, fibres, drawing, painting, printmaking and other media. Accommodation and work space are provided in return for community outreach activities.Up to seven residents at a time, usually from different disciplines and stages in their careers, live and work on campus for up to 3 1/2 months free of charge.     The Fine Arts Work Center offers a unique residency program for writers and visual artists in the crucial early stages of their careers. Located in Provincetown, an area with a long history as an arts colony, the Work Center provides seven-month fellowships to twenty fellows each year in the form of living/work space and a modest monthly stipend. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue their work independently in a diverse and supportive community. An historic fishing port, Provincetown is situated at the tip of Cape Cod in an area of spectacular natural beauty, surrounded by miles of dunes and National Seashore beaches. Each year, the deadline for writing fellowship applications is December 1, and for visual arts fellowship applications is February 1.

     

  • The MacDowell Colony Fellowship

    The colony provides workspace for writers, composers, filmmakers and architects, as well as visual artists of all disciplines. The oldest artists' colony in the USA, it now consists of thirty-two secluded studios set in 450 acres of fields and woodlands. Visual artists and other art form practitioners can apply for residencies of up to eight weeks. There are printmaking, darkroom and 16mm film editing facilities. There are no residency fees and there is a scheme for assistance with travel costs. There are three dealines a year, one in January, one in April and one in September; applications should be accompanied by two references, a project description, and examples of work (varies according to art form), with SAE for return of your work plus US $20 application fee.

    Art Omi is an international arts center for visual artists, writers and musicians as well as the site for The Fields Sculpture Park, a year round public exhibition space for contemporary sculpture. The International Artists Residency is a three week Residency Program for visual artists taking place in July. Art Omi provides artists with a studio, living quarters and meals at no cost to the artist. Art Omi also offers a writers residency for up to two months each year; and a music Residency, which brings together twelve to fifteen musicians and composers each August to create, play and perform. Every residency culminates in a open day that visitors will attend. Check website for deadline dates.
