    Founded in 1980. Shares a building with Chisenhale Gallery and Chisenhale Dance Space, but independent of them. In addition to providing exhibition, research and development facilities the three organisations run successful education programmes. Local schools, colleges, community groups, residents and the general public have access to unique educational experiences and art activities through the provision of outreach work, schools projects, in house workshops and exhibitions.

    Cockpit Arts is a registered charity providing help and support for designer/makers and applied artists. Workspaces are available for up to eight years on an annual sliding scale of charges and include access to computers, photocopier, fax and inclusion in two major selling events each year. Professional development, outreach activities and mentoring schemes are also run by the education office. Other services include a business incubator housing 165 designer-makers across two sites in WC1 and SE8. Cockpit Arts provides a customised targeted training programme for designer/makers that provides one to one consultations as well as group seminars. The Developing Professional Practice Programme runs for a whole year and is tailored to fit into the highs and lows of a designer/makers calendar.

    Gasworks is based by the Oval Cricket ground in South East London. It comprises a gallery and fifteen artists studios. Twelve studios are rented to London based artists and three are reserved for an International Residency Programme that enables non-UK based artists to live and work in London for a period up to three months. Weekend gallery talks by exhibiting artists and regular talks by international artists participating in the residency programme. Occasional seminars and events connected to Gasworks ongoing programme. All events are free.
