Contracts
The contracts section covers all aspects of artists' contracts with galleries, commissioners, agents, dealers and buyers, including sample contracts.
Money
Money covers many of the aspects of an artist's financial dealings, including tax, gifts, charity law, commission, VAT and state benefits.
Studios
In this section you can read case studies of artists who have successfully established their own studios and some current issues facing artists today.
Artlaw History
Documents relating to the Artlaw practice, in operation from 1976-1983, and some legal information pertinent to artists.
Public Patrons
Covers many aspects of public commissions, percent for art and art for architecture, plus case studies of successful and unsuccessful collaborations between artists and commissioners.
Censorship
Looking at cases studies and legal points involving artists and galleries who have been censored, and details relevant laws including those covering obscenity, profanity, blasphemy and indecency.
Art After Death
Case studies of what can happen to artworks and estates when artists are not clear about their wishes after they die.
Ways of Working
Diverse section; covers topics such as marketing and promotion, working overseas and case studies of fraud.
Copyright Before 1989
Archive of copyright issues prior to the introduction of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 on 1 August 1989.
Current Copyright Legistlation
Comprehensive section, exploring all aspects of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (which still stands), and new rights introduced in October 2003 that extend to artists and craftspeople.
Moral Rights
Connected to but distinct from copyright law, moral rights are covered here in some detail, including what artists can legally expect.
Artists Resale Royalty Right
Resale royalty rights give artists the right to receive 'royalty' payments when their work is resold on the secondary market. Here you can learn about the history of this right, which countries currently have this law and an overview of the UK system.
Publication Right
Similar to copyright. Learn about how this right could affect your work if it has not been previously published or exhibited.
