Ask Artquest a Question

Introduction

London-based visual artists and craftspeople can use this page to send Artquest a question.

The Artquest website is free to use for anyone in the world, but our query service can only be used by professional visual artists and craftspeople living and working in London.

Before sending a query:

  1. Make sure you have browsed and searched the website (using the grey box on the right side of each page).
  2. Remember that Artquest can only answer queries from London-based visual artists or crafts practitioners.  See About Artquest for why and Artquest's Networks for organisations who might be able to help.
  3. Remember that Artquest cannot answer queries from full-time students.  See About Artquest for why and enquire instead with your course tutors if you need advice.
  4. Remember that legal queries must be sent via the Artlaw website.
  5. Remember that updates to the Artquest site should be sent via the Submit a Listing page.

What happens next?

Your query will be read by one of our four staff who will decide whether to reply by email, by telephone, or to arrange a meeting with you if your query cannot be addressed any other way.  Over 90% of queries sent to Artquest require only an email response.  We aim to reply to all queries within 5 working days.

What can I ask?

We accept queries from any visual artist or craftsperson working professionally in London, in any medium, and about any issue.  The Artquest website covers topics as diverse as benefits and housing, tax and VAT, artist rates of pay, UK and international residencies, studios, legal queries.  Although the Artquest staff have, between them, over 50 years of experience in the visual arts and crafts both in the UK and overseas, our answers are never definitive.  We are all practitioners happy to share our insights and learn new things from our contact with Artquest users.
