Paintings in Hostpitals is a national organisation which provides paintings and other wall-based works to hospitals on loan. The collection was founded in 1959 and the idea for a permanent collection of paintings available to hospitals came soon after and with the support of the Nuffield Foundation funds were made available for the purchase of many hundreds of works of art for the Paintings in Hospitals Collection. Today, the collection holds over 2,700 works of art including paintings, prints, drawings, textiles and photography. In addition to their picture loan service, the charity runs a series of specialist arts projects. Funds permitting, PiH continues to purchase new work on a regular basis and they are always interested to hear from new artists. Artist applicants must be resident in the UK, and provide original work (ie not reproduction). Artists should consider carefully the style and content of their work in the context of a healthcare environment and multicultural audience. PiH are unable to consider free-standing sculptural works or installations, and prefer work larger than 10" x 10" (25cm x 25cm) and smaller than 72" x 72" (183cm x 183cm). Maximum price paid is £1,000, normally including framing and VAT where applicable. Applications: send SAE and slides/photographs, price list, and CV.
