Many London borough councils have access to properties that they own but are not in use and some will lend or short lease these to artists for exhibitions or projects.  A good first point of contact in developing these kinds of partnerships is through the arts officer of the borough in which you live, work, or are planning your project.  As well as council properties, these officers can often refer artists to non-traditional venues, sympathetic local developers or companies, local communities with which to collaborate and seed funding. Arts Officers often have an ongoing working relationship with local planners, so can also advise artists planning temporary public commissions or events.
