How to use Artquest

The Artquest website is free to use by anyone around the world. Other Artquest services are only open to professional visual artists and craftspeople who live and work in London. Use this page to find out how to get the best out of Artquest.

Most advice and information useful to artists is already out there, somewhere - it’s simply a matter of knowing how and where to access it.  Artquest provides a central signposting service to this material, available for free 24 hours a day online, and tops it up with unique information we couldn’t find anywhere else.  Many of the information pages on this site will redirect you to sources of help and advice, but if we can’t find another organisation supplying something that you ask us for, we’ll do the research ourselves and add it to our site.  In this way, the Artquest site has grown from around 50 pages at our launch to over 800 today.

1. Check the Artquest website

Using the search facility and menu options, check this site to see if what you need is here. All the advice and information that Artquest holds is on this site; more than 800 pages of it.  If you are a bit daunted by that, we have an easy to use search on every page (see the grey box on the left of each page) and a sitemap listing all the pages individually.  Although this site focuses on London-based opportunities and events, many of the articles will be useful for practitioners across the UK and even overseas.

The Artquest website receives between 20,000 and 25,000 visits every month, contains over 800 pages, is updated twice a week by a dedicated administrator and is free to access all areas to anyone.  On average, we add between 80 and 130 deadlines alone to the site every month.

You can also suggest your own update to the Artquest website - see the Submit a Listing page for details on how to do this.

The Artquest website is designed to be easy to use and simple to learn.  If you have any comments about our website, please contact Russell Martin at (email) russell@artquest.org.uk, (tel) 020 7514 8357 or (fax) 020 7514 6211.  We welcome any comments, complimentary or not, that help us make our service better.

2. Join the Artquest E-Letter List

Over 5,000 practitioners in London, the UK and overseas are members of our free email bulletin.  We tend to advertise most of our services only on this list to save revenues for paying for artists projects - you can read the latest one on this site.  The E-Letter list is free to join.  For more information join our E-Letter Bulletin list for free email updates.

3. Ask Artquest a question

If the information you require is not on the site, and you are a London-based practitioner, you can contact us with any query you may have relating to any aspect of your practice. Our Ask us a Question service will direct you to a form where you can contact any of the four members of Artquest staff.  Depending on the complexity of your query and perceived need, we may contact you by email, telephone or arrange a one to one meeting with you.

See the Ask us a Question page for more details on how to do this.

If you are not based in London, our About Artquest page has some links to organisations who may be able to help.

4. Projects and events

Special projects, residencies and events are constantly in development by Artquest (alone and in partnership with other London arts organisations) throughout the year.  Visit the Artquest projects pages to view a current timetable of upcoming projects, on the left side of any page.  Once again, both one to one advice sessions and training and seminar events are for use by London artists and craftspeople only; a London mailing address will be requested during booking.
