Sonic Arts Network is an events, education and information resource with members worldwide. We aim to raise awareness and innovate new approaches to sonic art by providing information and opportunity across the UK. Founded as the Electroacoustic Music Association in 1979 their aesthetic principles are tied to those of a medium with an experimental approach to sound and technology. Developments within and around electroacoustic music have led the organisation to broaden its network and to engage with a plurality of disciplines. SAN remains unique in the diversity of its activities, both at home in the UK and elsewhere in the world. Their role as a network, providing information and opportunity on UK sonic art to a world-wide community of members, connects individuals and institutions across aesthetic and geographic borders; work in education has, since the 1980s, remained at the cutting edge of artistic and strategic creativity; and support for new work through commissions, research and events has encouraged new developments in sonic art and helped pave the way for the current frenzy of activity in sound work.
