1 March: Lighting Artists

Solo artists and collaborating groups are hereby invited to take part in an international pre-qualifying round for a lighting project in the New Concert Hall in Stavanger, Norway to be completed in 2012. Participants in the competition will receive a fee of approx. £7,000 for each entry. The total budget for the art project is 2,000,000 NOK (approx. £215,000).

An artists' group can be two or more artists working together, or engaged in collective activity who consider themselves to be a group or network.

The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada is currently accepting applications to a number of its 2010 and 2011 visual arts Thematic Residencies as follows: 'Beyond Former Heaven (or the Institute of Surrealist Ethnography)' with Olivia Plender, for July to August 2010. This residency will encourage participants to work, live, play, and think collaboratively. The next residency is: 'The distance between our minds and thoughts equals the distance between our words and mouths' with Jan Verwoert, freom September to 29 October 2010. Application deadline wil be 14 May 2010. This residency is about acts, ideas, and emotions that constitute community in a different manner, through enacted difference and standing apart together.

This is an opportunity for a London-based artist to produce a major new film, video or digital media work to be commissioned and produced in collaboration with Film and Video Umbrella during 2010. The work will be staged at two London venues during the Autumn, alongside a screening programme and other contextual activities. The work will also go on to be exhibited at further UK venues as part of Film and Video Umbrella's UK-wide programme of touring exhibitions. The commissioned artist will be offered an artist's fee.

This is a bursary of up to £1,000 to assist the artistic development of a young person aged 16-25 years and is open to all artforms. Applicants must live in the City of Westminster, proof will be requested. The maximum award is for up to £1,000. Areas that they will consider funding: Arts education, training or practice (outside the formal education sector) Activities that broaden horizons through artforms such as dance, drama, music, creative writing, visual arts. The residency's aim is to develop proposals for the spiritual spaces at the new Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. Your proposal for a permanent commission will be developed in consultation with the Chaplain, the architect and specialists such as the Infection Control and Health & Safety Officers. These discussions will determine the direction that your proposal might take, but at this early stage it is anticipated that likely outcomes will be focused on the overall atmosphere of the room and on creating craft items such as glass windows/screens etc. The fee for this short-term residency is £3000 (inc. VAT), inclusive of all travel, accommodation, materials. Interviews will be held on Saturday 20th March at the RHSC, Edinburgh.

Elsewhere Collaborative, a living museum and experimental production environment in downtown Greensboro, NC, is now accepting applications from artists, curators, writers and creatives across media for residencies in 2010. Elsewhere is set within a three-story former thrift store, boarding house, and warehouse containing one woman's enormous 58 years collection of American surplus, thrift, and antiques. Elsewhere residencies invites experimental creators to join our collaborating community in utilizing this immense collection of objects, no longer for sale and instead circulating internally, as material or inspiration for site-specific projects that become part of an endlessly transforming environment of objects and works. Artists live and work within interactive installations that provide evolving frameworks for investigating collaborations, community structures, and creative processes. Each resident pays a $250 flat fee ($50 deposit, $200 program fee upon arrival), funds their own travel, and participates in their food co-operative at the cost of $35 per week. Funded residencies are currently available through a small number of education fellowships and curated residency events.

How is the body in war transformed, classified, displayed, utilised, represented and produced through the visual art form? What do these visual forms show us about war and its transformative power? To what extent does the artist embody war through the lived creative process? The War and the Body exhibition explores the intertwining of war and body in the sculpture, drawing, painting, photography and installation art work of contemporary artists.
