An Artist in Residence is needed for 49.5 days between 1st July to 31st August 2008 to work on the theme of portraiture. The artist will be based in the gallery and, over this period, will be required to create portraits of members of the public, engage the public through discussions and talks, organise and deliver a minimum of 14 half day workshops and 4 talks about their work and curate an exhibition of portraits drawn from the gallery's permanent collection. Public commission call for a development that will transform the existing university site at 202 Wandsworth Road, London to create a contemporary mixed-use development of 223 new homes. They are looking to commission public art for the site that must contribute positively to the public realm within the development, be contemporary and integrate with the landscape design. Regeneration of this area of Belfast focuses on the MAC, a new Arts’ Centre comprising of new 350- and 120-seat theatres, a 1,000 sq metre visual arts space, rehearsal rooms, offices and restaurant. Submissions are open for the commission of an artwork to be located in the piazza of Saint Anne’s Square. The budget for the commission will be circa £35,000 and must cover all fees and associated costs including design, production, transport, installation and travel expenses. This summer S1 Artspace will host its third Artist in Residence. The residency will take place over ten weeks from 19th July - 28th September, to be followed by a solo exhibition in October - November 2008. An open exhibition of contemporary fine art held annually to support a selected charity. The chosen charity for 2008 is Children with Aids Charity. The exhibition will take place in at The Gallery in Cork Street, London and will run from Thursday 31 July - Saturday 9 August 2008. Any artist living anywhere in the world may enter. All work must be original, conceived and executed solely by the artist, and completed within the past year, without instructional assistance. All media except film and video are eligible for exhibition. There is a maximum of four entries per artist and there is an entry fee of £8 per work (£5 per work for Young Artists under 18).

Open call for proposals for audio work, performance and interactive work for a mobile gallery touring swimming pools in 10 cities nationwide in the UKs First Underwater Sound Festival. During June and July, the Folkestone Fringe has been given the use of a beach hut during weekdays for the first half of the triennial. This is a developmental space whereby contemporary practitioners are encouraged to experiment in the context of this social space. The intention is to develop a body of work that will then inform the construction of a hybrid beach hut to be launched in august. Anyone interested should submit proposals that aim to investigate the concept of the beach hut as a space from which to observe and to be observed. The Pépinières Européennes pour jeunes artistes launches a Mobility Programme, offering more than 50 residencies during 2008/9. This programme is open to any artists between 18 and 35 years old, from one of the programme's member countries. The 13th edition of this international festival of Digital Art and Cultures, will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the 4th to 8th November 2008. The festival is currently inviting submissions of works from artists and authors of any nationality. The juried competition consists of four categories: Video Art, Experimental or Artistic Documentary, 2D or 3D Animation and Media Art. There are prizes totalling 20.000 Euros for winners in the international categories. Winners will also be given 250 Euros as a travel incentive to travel to the festival. PureScreen, Castlefield Gallery's regular screening event, invites new submissions from artists for the 2008-2009 series. The programme provides a platform for outstanding recent film and video work and aims to support new and emerging practitioners. In addition, they distribute touring programmes to partner venues and provide a resource for other organisations involved in contemporary moving-image practice. The selected work will demonstrate inventive use of its medium, propose alternative modes of cinematic language, or offer interdisciplinary perspectives through collaboration. From the year's selection they will compile a 'Best Of’ DVD to profile work at festivals and events throughout international artists and filmmakers communities.
