An Artist in Residence is needed for 49.5 days between 1st July to 31st August 2008 to work on the theme of portraiture. The artist will be based in the gallery and, over this period, will be required to create portraits of members of the public, engage the public through discussions and talks, organise and deliver a minimum of 14 half day workshops and 4 talks about their work and curate an exhibition of portraits drawn from the gallery's permanent collection. Regeneration of this area of Belfast focuses on the MAC, a new Arts’ Centre comprising of new 350- and 120-seat theatres, a 1,000 sq metre visual arts space, rehearsal rooms, offices and restaurant. Submissions are open for the commission of an artwork to be located in the piazza of Saint Anne’s Square. The budget for the commission will be circa £35,000 and must cover all fees and associated costs including design, production, transport, installation and travel expenses. This summer S1 Artspace will host its third Artist in Residence. The residency will take place over ten weeks from 19th July - 28th September, to be followed by a solo exhibition in October - November 2008. During June and July, the Folkestone Fringe has been given the use of a beach hut during weekdays for the first half of the triennial. This is a developmental space whereby contemporary practitioners are encouraged to experiment in the context of this social space. The intention is to develop a body of work that will then inform the construction of a hybrid beach hut to be launched in august. The 13th edition of this international festival of Digital Art and Cultures, will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from the 4th to 8th November 2008. PureScreen, Castlefield Gallery's regular screening event, invites new submissions from artists for the 2008-2009 series. The programme provides a platform for outstanding recent film and video work and aims to support new and emerging practitioners. The Clay Studio offers opportunities for three solo exhibitions annually to artists working with clay. They are now accepting applications for the gallery season September 2009-August 2010.
