2 September: Commission for Enchanted Parks 2008

Enchanted Parks is an innovative outdoor arts programme presented as part of the annual Newcastle Gateshead Winter Festival cultural programme. The commissions will be for not only visual arts but for proposals that use combined arts forms including sound, multi-media, music, spoken word. The event will be available for the public to see and enjoy for a period of up to fourteen days during the Winter Festival. Proposals are invited for outdoor artworks that can realised within a commission budget of £ 2,000 to £ 5,000. Ten to fifteen art works will be commissioned.

The ART CLAIMS IMPULSE residency program consists of normally a 4 week working period in which artists are encouraged to develop and complete one or more works of art, which will be exhibited in the gallery space for a period of 2 weeks. This conference will ask what motivates artists to write, how they view the relation between their visual and textual practice, and how they use writing to manipulate or challenge the public reception and critical interpretation of their work. The fund is open to those who have finished their formal training and are working full-time or part-time but need money for specific projects such as setting up a workshop, buying equipment, or for research and travel. Awards, which usually range between £500 and £1,000, are made every other year, each time focusing on a specific craft discipline. For 2008 this will be WOOD and application forms are now available.
