As with most art scenes, there are the usual complaints of claustrophobia, nepotism and cliquey-ness, but also of westerners exacerbating employment, inflation and local culture.
Palestine is very good for art education for its size; it has three large American–style universities in Nablus, Hebron (technically, a polytechnic) and Birzeit, just outside of Ramallah and one dedicated art school in Ramallah.
Visiting artists can find work with the large variety of social projects that exist in Palestine. Whether a residency, or for a humanitarian NGO funded project like Campus in Camps, or for crossover groups like Exterritory Project or DAAR.
