Gasworks is based by the Oval Cricket ground in South East London. It comprises a gallery and fifteen artists studios. Twelve studios are rented to London based artists and three are reserved for an International Residency Programme that enables non-UK based artists to live and work in London for a period up to three months. Weekend gallery talks by exhibiting artists and regular talks by international artists participating in the residency programme. Occasional seminars and events connected to Gasworks ongoing programme. All events are free.

The Hayward, a purpose-built, modern art gallery, was opened in 1968. It is considered an icon of sixties 'brutalist' architecture. The Serpentine Gallery presents a programme of modern and contemporary art and collaborates regularly with international and national partners. The V&A is the national museum of applied and decorative arts. The Whitechapel Art Gallery celebrated its 100th year in 2001 and shows a wide and challenging range of contemporary art from artists nationally and internationally.
