Matadero Madrid is a centre for the development of contemporary art. Set in an old slaughterhouse with 148,300m2 of building space the Matadero seeks to promote visual arts, design, music, dance, architecture, urbansim, landscape design, fashion, literature, philosophy and cinema. Matadero offers space to artists and collectives for the development of individual projects. Activities are generated to promote an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to all forms of creation, with an emphasis on research, production, training and communiction. Matadero hosts La Noche en Blanco, an annual cultural event promoting art across the city and offers grants to groups and cultural agents. It is a major site for the development of the emerging arts in Madrid.
