Crofters’ Memorial Commission

Website: https://atlasarts.org.uk/projects/open-call-for-artists-crofters-memorial/

Atlas Arts, working in partnership with Staffin Community Trust (Urras An Taobh Sear), invites applications from artists interested in researching and developing a contemporary memorial to acknowledge the crofters’ troubles in Staffin, Isle of Skye, in the 1880s. The proposals will form a series of temporary pilot commissions that contribute to an awareness and understanding in the local community of the potential positive impacts and benefits that a commissioned public artwork/contemporary memorial can have. This is an opportunity for artists – local, national and international, to develop ideas for a context-specific artwork. It is anticipated that three artists will be invited to take forward their ideas to a development stage. The three shortlisted candidates will each be offered a fee of £500 to cover costs of developing a detailed proposal. A fixed fee for each artist will then be offered, to further develop their ideas.
