Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes
Wales Contemporary / Cymru Gyfoes is an international open competition for 2D artwork in any medium excluding photography. Developed by the Waterfront Gallery in association with the Welsh Government, Wales Contemporary seeks to celebrate all aspects of the country by inviting artists to submit work that is ‘Inspired by Wales’ i.e. by its ancient history, its art history, its heritage, its landscape (rural, urban or political) and its contemporary culture. Artists are invited to submit a maximum of two artworks no larger than 180cm in any dimension. The standard submission fee is £15 for one work and £25 for two; for young artists (aged 25 and under) the submission fee is £10 for one work and £15 for two. The following prizes will be awarded: 1st Prize of £5000 plus 3 week residency in Milford Haven, Wales and 1 month solo exhibition at the Waterfront Gallery, Wales. 2nd Prize of £2500, the Young Artist Prize (25 and under) of £1000, the Highly commended prize of £500, the Prize for artists born, educated or resident in Wales of £2000 and the Public choice prize of £1000. The competition is open to all artists aged 18 and over based in the UK or internationally.
