We are committed to ensuring everyone can use this website. We have developed this site to suit different user needs.

In this section we explore ideas for making the site more accessible. There are links at the end of the page to more detailed information on using the site with different devices.

Increasing access on different devices

Depending on what adjustments you prefer, there are changes you can make to your devices to increase access to our website, including:

  • Speech output
  • Magnifying the screen
  • Making the mouse point bigger
  • Slowing down the mouse speed
  • Using the keyboard to move around a website

Go to the AbilityNet website for advice on making your device easier to use.

Accessibility statement

This website is run by Artquest, a programme of University of the Arts London (UAL) supported by Arts Council England. This accessibility statement applies to artquest.org.uk.

This website uses HTML 5 (HyperText Mark-up Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to render content. We have also used other technologies including JavaScript on certain areas of the website.

We commit to ensuring this website is as accessible as possible and we want as many people as possible to be able to use it. This means that you should be able to:

  • access the website regardless of the device and browser you are using
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • use the high contrast text/background toggle to make text clearer where you need to
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also tried to make the website text as easy to understand as possible although we recognise we have more work to do on this.

How accessible this website is

We know that some parts of the website are not fully accessible:

  • our PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some video content is missing captions and sub-titles
  • some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

UAL is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Disproportionate burden

  • Some of our online forms are not entirely navigable using a keyboard. For example, some dropdown menus and the “Submit” button can only be activated using a mouse.
  • Not all of our old video and audio content, comprising over 140 files, has subtitles or transcripts. We commission transcripts for new audio and video content.

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing these issues and believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the regulations.

Content that’s not within scope of the accessibility regulations

  • None of the documents published on our website before 23 September 2018 are accessible. We are not required to make these documents accessible as they are not needed for active administrative processes.
  • We use embedded online maps from Google Maps on this site. These do not need to be accessible as we provide essential information (such as directions) in text format adjacent to embed maps.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We re-designed the site in December 2021. As part of that re-design we worked with a specialist accessibility organisation to ensure that the designs we create continue to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
